Book Gris: Cubism, Juan Gris and the Book

 The Book

Juan Gris (1887-1927) was one of the most famous Cubist painters. His Portrait of Picasso, painted in 1912,  is considered one of the important early Cubist paintings that was not painted by Picasso. When he died at the age of 40 he left behind over 200 works, at least a dozen of which feature book imagery.

Here is part one:

Book, Pipe and Glasses

Bowl, Book and Spoon

Compotier, Carafe and Open Book

 Fruit and Book

 Fruit Bowl, Book and Newspaper

Neat collection. I've seen some of his works in person, but I never thought about (or knew, really) how many of them featured images of books.
